I am having such a pleasure working with my horses and I discovered the advantage of training my horses using music some years ago.

In between working with new exercises and preparing for the Sahara Clinic I have had a good progress in responsiveness, rhythm and fun adding music.

I introduced my new mare to music and it was very challenging and rewarding. I don’t think she had heard music before and she added a lot of energy in her own movements running in her field with Kadoo.

Horses have very sensitive hearing so I experimented a bit with how high the music should be and what kind of music could work. After trying a bit of soft classical and and latin rythms with guitar, we ended on a drumming Latino rhythm that I liked very much. I think my own likings also influenced the fun in the training. I am very often inspired by various kinds of music, it can trigger my energy and mood in a free and positive direction and I think the horses can feel that.

For me but it certainly works.

The great effects of music has been around for hundreds of years like Plato wrote:

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just, and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate and eternal form.”

If we ad a bit of sciences as well we learn that the entire human energetic system is extremely influenced by sounds, the physical body responds specifically to certain tones and frequencies. Music is stress-fighting and increase the body’s production of serotonin which is a chemical necessary for communication between nerve cells.

So why not ad a bit of music to your horse training?
